Auckland Club Past Events 2014White Lady / Christmas Lights Cruise 2014

Given that the weather was nothing flash it was
brilliant to see so many members out with their cars, and in particular
the fine contingent of older Muzzies we had out for the day. Also
particularly pleasing to have members along for the very first time
having joined the club, and some members of many years who we haven't
seen at recent events along for the run. All up we were banking on 43 cars and you did us proud guys because we achieved that number and what a great sight they looked as they cruised through town, over the bridge, up the Highway 1 and through Red Beach and Orewa. I must say when we were all leaving the back of the War Memorial Museum the lines of cars 3 abreast and a bus amongst them, looked a little like one of those European scenes where there is a Grand Old Building in the background and all this traffic bumper to bumper on a ring road in front. So after the debrief at 10.20am, we were off pretty much at 10.30am to stops at Northcote Point, Red Beach, Orewa and Wenderholm where some got lucky and achieved brilliant hands, others like yours truly arrived with a dismal hand and upon departure from Wenderholm, nothing had changed. The Puhoi Cheese Shop, were to put it mildly brilliant. They knew we were going to be a big group and put on extra staff, but any cafe is going to find it hard yards when close on 100 people descend upon the place all at once when they already have their usual Sunday trade. The food was delicious, the cheeses were magnificent, (trust me we bought some and scoffed it tonight) and it was clear that many were also keen to finish lunch off with one of their home made ice creams. So the results of the day were as follows: 1st Place: David and Moana Turner with a $50 MTA voucher (Courtesy of our good friends at Swann Insurance) and the all important "Poker Run Trophy" to hold for the year ahead. 2nd Place: Ashley and Gayle Sim with a $50 MTA voucher (Courtesy of our good friends at Swann Insurance) 3rd Place: John and Christine Lipanovich 4th Place : Justin Weir and Tracey Segedin Events like today's don't just happen, they take time and effort to organise to ensure that as much as possible they run smoothly and that people enjoy themselves. Craig and Dianna a huge thank you from all of us for a brilliant run which even inclement weather could not put a damper on, you really do have these Poker runs down to a fine art now. |
